Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT)
The Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) department at Woodthorpe Hospital in Nottingham helps patients with a variety of illnesses affecting the ear, nose, throat, head or neck.
Our ENT surgeons, also known as consultant otolaryngologists, diagnose and treat problems that affect or cause: hearing and balance, sinuses, breathing, smell, speech, swallowing, allergic reactions, sleep and snoring, in both adults. They also perform facial cosmetic surgery.
ENT Assessment and Treatments available
The ENT department at Woodthorpe Hospital provides diagnostic testing, non-surgical solutions and all the main ENT surgeries and it’s subspecialties including: otology, rhinology, laryngology and facial plastic surgery.
Many ENT operations are performed under local anaesthetic as day case procedures. We ensure all surgery is carried out to the highest quality standards with particular attention to individualised patient care.
Our consultants will discuss with you the best options for your ear, nose or throat condition that will suit your personal needs.

Snoring and Sleep Apnoea
Snoring occurs when there is an obstruction to the free flow of air through the passages at the back of the mouth and nose. It can be a nuisance to you and your partner. Sleep apnoea is when the muscles and soft tissues in the throat relax and collapse sufficiently to stop airflow to the lungs for more than 10 seconds during sleep. The brain automatically wakes you up, usually with a loud snore or snort when you experience an episode of apnoea during sleep in order to breathe again. Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) causes these wakening episodes many times during the night.
Snoring is no longer adequately covered within the NHS. Here at Woodthorpe Hospital in Nottingham we offer surgical solutions for snoring and sleep apnoea.
Surgery to remove tonsils (small glands in the throat, one on each side, that fight germs when you are a young child).
