DIY Enthusiast Is Back To His Best Thanks To Hernia Surgery

DIY enthusiast Owen Pickering is getting back to his best again thanks to hernia surgery at Woodthorpe Hospital.
The 72-year old was in the middle of repairing his garage roof when he started to experience pain in his groin.
Owen suffered with the discomfort for three weeks and when it became more excruciating he booked an appointment to see his GP.
He was referred to see hernia specialist Mr Ian Beckingham at Woodthorpe Hospital who diagnosed the issue as an inguinal hernia.
Owen was given a date for surgery at the hospital just a week later, much to his delight.
He underwent a laparoscopic (keyhole) procedure instead of open surgery, which means a quicker recovery time for the patient and less pain, and only 20% of hernias are done this way in the NHS.
Owen, of Carlton, Nottingham, said: “I’m always doing jobs around the house and for family members and neighbours as well,
“I had just lifted some bags of stones onto my garage roof when I started to experience a burning sensation in my groin.
“The pain I was experiencing started to become unbearable and I had a lump on my groin as well which was clearly visible so I knew I had to do something about it and I went to see my doctor.
“After speaking to Mr Beckingham during an initial consultation, I was booked in as a day patient, had the Hernia repaired and was discharged later in the evening of the same day which was fantastic.
"We so often hear of delays in the health service but never seem to hear about the excellent service like this that I received at Woodthorpe Hospital.”
Mr Beckingham is an expert in a wide range of hernia surgeries including inguinal hernia, femoral hernia, umbilical hernia, epigastric hernia, incisional hernia and sports hernia.
Owen said: “Throughout my whole experience with Mr Beckingham, from my first appointment right through to my post operation follow-up appointment, he was friendly, professional, caring and put me at ease instantly.
“He also provided me with an excellent comprehensive booklet, which described totally and accurately what a Hernia was, the treatment and what to expect afterwards which he had written himself.”
Owen’s hernia surgery appointment was his first visit to Woodthorpe Hospital but he is keen to spread the good word about the first class service he received.
Owen added: “I would like to express my sincere thanks and appreciation to, in particular Mr Beckingham, but to all the staff at Woodthorpe Hospital.
“I feel very privileged to have received such excellent advice and treatment from such an excellent surgeon.
“I will definitely be recommending the hospital to other people because it provides a wonderful service.”
“Thanks to the Woodthorpe team, the pain has gone and I am fit and raring to go again.”
