How to be referred
Woodthorpe Hospital accepts both GP referrals and self-referrals.
Here at Woodthorpe Hospital you can self-refer as well as being referred by your GP.
We offer a comprehensive spinal care service to all patients suffering from back or neck pain including: consultations with orthopaedic and spinal specialists, a back pain assessment clinic, the latest diagnostic equipment, and treatment through physiotherapy, pain relieving injections and spinal surgery.
GP referral
Your GP can refer you for an outpatient appointment with one of our spinal consultants who will examine and discuss your back or neck pain and recommend the appropriate next steps.
Your GP can also refer you directly to our imaging department for an MRI, CT scan, X-ray or ultrasound. Appointments are normally offered within three to five working days and reported back to your GP within 5 days.
Self-referral
Woodthorpe Hospital accepts self-referrals from our private and insured patients. If you have private or company medical insurance, it’s advisable to ask your insurer if you are covered for a consultation and treatment. If you are paying for treatment yourself, we are happy to provide you with an estimate of costs for treatment.
You can book a private appointment at our back pain assessment clinic with a member of the physiotherapy team. A senior chartered physiotherapist will perform a complete clinical examination, offer advice to help you resume daily activities or, refer you on: to a consultant, for diagnostic tests or physiotherapy treatment as required. To make an appointment with the back pain assessment clinic please call 0115 684 8929.
You can also self-refer to our imaging department for a diagnostic test if you’ve been medically advised to arrange this to investigate your back pain further. A GP referral is required for a spinal imaging appointment.
If you would like physiotherapy treatment you can book an appointment directly with our physiotherapy department.
