Meet Louise Walker, Operations Manager

Can you tell me about your role and your place in the team?

I am currently working as the Operations Manager, part of the Senior Leadership Team. I have recently taken on this role and look after Reception, Maintenance, Support Services, Medical Secretaries, Medical Records, Housekeeping and Catering as well as the day to day operations of the hospital.

What attracted you to come and work at Ramsay?

I was looking for a change in my role before I started here at Nottingham Woodthorpe, I wanted a new challenge and I wanted to work in a larger team. When I came for interview the hospital and staff seemed so lovely and positive that it really appealed to me when I started as a GP Liaison Officer.

What has kept you here?

The people. The staff make it such a nice place to come and work, no matter how busy every individual is they still have time to smile, ask about your family and your weekend and really show that they care. There are a lot of perks to working here and the benefits are really good.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

I am currently new in post, and I am embracing the new challenge. It is a huge learning curve but I am finally getting used to the change! I am really excited to drive the business forward with a fresh mind-set.

Do you feel Ramsay supports its employees in accessing training and development opportunities to progress their careers? Any personal examples?

I was previously working as GP Liaison Officer for Nottingham Woodthorpe, and during this role I was working as a Freedom to Speak Up Guardian, whilst also supporting staff engagement with groups such as EIG and charity fundraising. It was lovely to have this responsibility and trust from SLT to run these groups.

What makes Woodthorpe a special place to work, and how would you describe the culture?

It is definitely moving in a positive direction, staff feel more comfortable, communicated with and happy. Staff are more open to accept changes for the better after such a difficult time after the new patient system roll out, and are using their voice, more which is really good. Covid-19 also took a massive hit on culture wherever you went, but staff engagement is higher than ever which is a great thing to see. The discounted lunches are amazing also.

Are there any particular moments you’ve experienced or individuals you’ve worked with that stand out to you?

I would like to mention Victoria Elliott for supporting me in the move from GPLO to Operations Manager. This was a massive jump and she was there from the first day. Also a big thanks to Laila, Isabelle and all the SLT for supporting me in the new role. It hasn’t been easy but I love the challenge.
