Ramsay Bushfire Relief Appeal

The devastating images and news stories coming out of Australia due to the ongoing bushfire emergency has tragically claimed lives, destroyed properties, and forced people to be evacuated from their homes.  The scale of this crisis is unprecedented and we have received many enquiries from staff in the UK wishing to offer their help to our teams out in Australia.

Many of our Ramsay facilities and colleagues in Australia are directly involved in helping provide relief to volunteers and victims affected by the disaster. Southern Highlands Private Hospital & Nowra Private Hospital have been offered as accommodation to Rural Fire Service volunteers and to Ramsay staff members who have been forced to leave their homes. Joondalup Health Campus’s supply department has provided items to assist with helping wildlife affected by bushfires. They are donating medical supplies such as absorbent pads and cloths, plastic suture sets, kidney dishes, and IV starter kits.

The Paul Ramsay Foundation, set up in 2006 by Ramsay Health Care founder Paul Ramsay, was created with the ambition to break the cycle of disadvantage in Australia. In response to the bushfires, the foundation has publically pledged $30 million to the crisis. $3 million will be used initially to help with immediate relief efforts, with the further funding allocated to longer-term work with disadvantaged communities.

Ramsay Health Care has developed the Ramsay Bushfire Relief Appeal to facilitate assistance to fire-affected staff members and communities in the following ways:

1. Ramsay is providing financial assistance to Ramsay staff members whose properties have been directly impacted by bushfires.
2. Ramsay staff members who volunteer in emergency services will continue to receive their regular wages to ensure they are financially supported while they serve their communities.
3. Provide access for all Ramsay staff and doctors to professional and confidential counselling, coaching and support through our Employee Assistance Program.

In addition, all Ramsay sites in Australia are hosting fundraisers between the 7 – 17 January to raise money.  Ramsay Health Care will match the amount of money raised by each site.

In solidarity with our colleagues in Australia and for all those affected by the bushfires, all Ramsay UK sites and staff are hosting a fundraising activity between 9 January and 27 January 2020 (Australia Day). Ramsay UK will match the amount of money raised by our teams and all proceeds will be donated to the New South Wales Rural Fire Service and Country Fire Authority in Victoria.
